Ahrefs Brand Radar: find out whether AI assistants mention your brand, and how often
Good tool
Brand Radar, the Ahrefs module built for AI visibility, measures at scale whether ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI Overviews mention a brand when someone asks them which product to choose. Instead of a few dozen questions typed in by hand, it relies on a database of more than 519 million prompts and calculates, for any brand, its mentions, the pages cited as sources and its share of voice against competitors. On top of that market view, it tracks the questions you pick, every day. In the young field of GEO, or generative engine optimization, few tools see this wide.
What is Ahrefs Brand Radar?
Brand Radar works on two levels. The first, the AI visibility index, is a huge collection of answers that have already been recorded. Ahrefs starts from the real searches in its keyword database, turns them into natural-language questions (drawing on Google’s “People also ask” and the follow-up queries AI assistants generate on their own), submits them to the assistants and stores every answer. According to figures Ahrefs published in October 2026, the database holds 519 million monthly prompts, including about 291 million for AI Overviews and 116 million for AI Mode, versus 28 million each for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot. These question sets are rerun every month and analyzed over a 90-day window. There is nothing to set up: you type in a brand name, yours or a competitor’s, and the numbers appear.
The second level, custom prompt tracking, looks more like the specialized GEO tools. You enter the questions your customers ask, choose the platforms (Claude joins the list here) and a daily, weekly or monthly frequency, and the tool archives the answers over time. Each prompt checked on one platform uses up one “check,” and Claude costs eight per update.
The module is built by Ahrefs, the Singapore-based company known for its backlink index. Version 2.0, unveiled in August 2025, reorganized it along the lines of Site Explorer, with dedicated reports on cited domains and pages, and custom prompt tracking arrived in January 2026. Brand Radar can be bought on its own, without a subscription to the suite; the other way around, Ahrefs’ paid plans include a small allowance of it.

Ahrefs Brand Radar review
Good tool
What sets Brand Radar apart is scale. Most GEO tools query AI assistants with a list of prompts you write yourself, so the results depend entirely on how good that list is, and fifty well-chosen questions say little about an entire market. Ahrefs comes at the problem from the other end. Because its prompts are derived from searches people actually type into Google, it can show at a glance which brands dominate a category, which ones are gaining ground and which sites AI assistants cite most. For a baseline audit or competitive monitoring, that saves a considerable amount of time.
Those numbers have their biases, though, and it pays to know them. The questions are built from keywords: they resemble what people ask, but they aren’t real conversations. The database also leans heavily toward Google, since nearly eight prompts out of ten come from AI Overviews and AI Mode; on ChatGPT, the sample is still large but much thinner. Answers are rerun monthly and read over three months, which works for a trend, not for measuring the impact of a page published last week. And a young or highly specialized brand that few people search for may simply fly under the index’s radar. Custom prompts exist for exactly those cases.
The bill adds up piece by piece. Prompt packages start at a reasonable price, but the index is billed platform by platform, at $199 each, and access to all of them costs $699 a month. Add an Ahrefs subscription if you also want the perks reserved for its customers, and the budget climbs fast, with no trial to get a feel for the tool before paying. The five prompts bundled into the Lite plan only show you what the tool looks like.
Brand Radar is best suited to teams already comfortable with Ahrefs, to agencies and to established brands that want to see where they stand in AI answers across a whole market. For tracking a handful of specific questions day to day, it has no decisive edge over a specialized tool.
Strengths
- A database of 519 million prompts that gives a market-wide view, not just the view from a few questions.
- Prompts drawn from real search demand, tied to keywords and search volume.
- No setup: any brand, including a competitor, can be analyzed in seconds.
- The pages and domains AI assistants cite, useful for steering content and PR.
- Custom prompt tracking on top, Claude included.
- Available on its own, or folded into the routine of existing Ahrefs users.
Weaknesses
- An index billed per platform, which gets expensive as soon as you want full coverage.
- A database dominated by Google’s AI surfaces, thinner on ChatGPT and the other assistants.
- Questions rebuilt from keywords, not real conversations.
- A monthly refresh on the index, too slow to measure the effect of a recent change.
- Weak coverage for young or niche brands that few people search for.
- No trial and no free plan, and pricing that is hard to read.
Is Ahrefs Brand Radar worth it?
Yes, if you need to understand who owns the conversation in AI answers across an entire market: an agency preparing an audit, a well-known brand that wants to measure itself against its rivals, or an SEO team that already works in Ahrefs and wants AI visibility, keywords and links in one place. No other tool lets you analyze a competitor this quickly without setting anything up.
Not necessarily, if your brand is young, local or highly specialized, or if you only want to track a few dozen specific questions. The index will have little to say about you, and an Ahrefs prompt package is then no better than a tool designed for that job.
The specialized GEO tools work differently. Otterly.AI, which offers a free trial, and Peec AI start from your own prompts and focus on daily tracking, answer analysis and client reporting; Profound, priced on request, is aimed more at large enterprises and covers more engines. Semrush, for its part, includes tracking of 50 daily prompts in its Starter plan, at $165.17 a month billed annually, a logical option if you already pay for its suite. Brand Radar stands out for the sheer size of its index: it is first and foremost a way to map a market, while the specialized tools are for managing your own questions.
How much does Ahrefs Brand Radar cost?
Brand Radar is sold as two independent building blocks: check packages to track your own prompts, from $50 to $250 a month, and access to the visibility index, billed at $199 a month per platform or $699 for all of them. Paying a year up front works out to paying for ten months out of twelve.
| Plan | Per month | Per month, billed yearly | Included | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prompts Basic | $50 | $41.67 | 2,500 checks a month, for example 80 prompts a day on one platform | A short list of questions to track |
| Prompts Growth | $100 | $83.33 | 7,000 checks a month, for example 100 prompts a day on two platforms | Brands tracking several AI assistants |
| Prompts Scale | $250 | $208.33 | 25,000 checks a month, at the lowest cost per check | Agencies and high volumes |
| Index, one platform | $199 | $165.83 | Visibility of any brand in one platform’s index (AI Overviews with AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity) | Analyzing a market on the AI platform that matters most to you |
| Index, all platforms | $699 | $582.50 | Every AI visibility index | Agencies and large brands |
