GoDaddy Website Builder: a small business website built by chatting with AI
Worth a look
Describe your business in a few sentences, a hair salon, a caterer, a consulting firm, and GoDaddy Website Builder generates the whole site: pages, copy, images, a contact form, even appointment booking or a small online store. You then fine-tune it by chatting with the AI and publish it on a domain bought in the same place. Now sold as Airo AI Builder, it is the website-building offer of GoDaddy, one of the best-known names in domain registration, designed for freelancers and small businesses that want everything under one provider.
What is GoDaddy Website Builder?
No template to pick, no blocks to drag around: since 2026, GoDaddy’s website builder works like a coding assistant. You type your request in plain language, in any language, and the AI builds a complete project, with its pages, its database and its logic. The result can be a brochure site, an online store, a portfolio or a small web app, such as a booking system or a customer portal. Every change goes through the conversation (“make the banner darker,” “add a form”), while editing a piece of text or an image is done by hand and uses up nothing.
The business model is based on AI credits: every request made to the assistant consumes some, the free plan provides 50 a month and paid plans from 150 to 750. Unused credits are lost at the end of the cycle. Hosting, the SSL certificate, protection against denial-of-service attacks and a free domain for the first year with an annual plan are included. Unusually for an all-in-one website builder, the generated code (React, TypeScript, Tailwind) can be downloaded at any time, to hand over to a developer or host elsewhere.
The tool belongs to GoDaddy, founded in 1997 by Bob Parsons as Jomax Technologies and listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2015. Based in Tempe, Arizona, the group generated $5.0 billion in revenue in 2025 and had 20.4 million customers at the end of that fiscal year. Its website builder has changed faces several times: GoCentral in 2017, Websites + Marketing in 2019, then Airo AI Builder, which GoDaddy now presents as its flagship website product.

GoDaddy Website Builder review
Worth a look
For a tradesperson or a shop owner whose domain is already at GoDaddy, the case is obvious: everything is handled in one place, and the site comes out of a simple description in a few minutes. For an introduction page, a portfolio or a service business, the result holds up, and being able to reach an advisor by phone at any hour reassures people who have never built a website.
The shift to AI does change the way you work, though: the tool is no longer driven like a classic editor but like an assistant you place orders with, and every request uses up credits. The 50 monthly credits of the free plan are for trying things out, not for going live: publishing starts with the Starter plan, limited to one site and one payment link. Appointments, online payments and a product catalog only come with Professional, at $24.99 a month billed yearly, in the same price range as comparable plans from Wix or Squarespace, which have had more years to mature. It is still a young product, and GoDaddy itself does not always present its rules the same way from one page to the next.
On the other hand, it has fixed the main complaint about its former editor, Websites + Marketing, which locked the site into the platform: the code can now be downloaded at any time. GoDaddy’s own sales approach, however, has not changed: upsells, automatic renewals that are easy to miss and cancellations that take persistence. It is wise to note your subscription’s renewal date and check the price charged in the second year.
Strengths
- A complete site generated in minutes, with no technical skills.
- Domain, hosting, SSL and website under one provider.
- Support reachable by phone and chat at any hour.
- Generated code you can download at any time: no lock-in.
- Beyond brochure sites, real small apps (bookings, customer portal).
Weaknesses
- A free plan that does not let you publish your site.
- AI credits used up with every request and lost at the end of the month.
- Appointments, online payments and store reserved for the Professional plan.
- A recent product whose rules are sometimes presented differently across GoDaddy’s pages.
- Pushy sales practices: upsells and automatic renewals.
- No published renewal price: the advertised rate only applies to the first term.
Is GoDaddy Website Builder worth it?
Yes, if you run a small local business, your domains are already at GoDaddy and you want a decent website without learning new software: describing your business and letting the AI write the first draft is genuinely fast, and the free plan lets you judge the result before paying. Still, plan on a serious review: generated copy tends to look alike from one site to another in the same trade, and page titles, descriptions and URLs need to be reworked by hand if you want to show up in local searches. The tool is also worth a look if you need a small app, bookings or a customer portal, without hiring a developer.
Not necessarily, if you want to stay in control of the layout without going through a conversation, or if you plan to sell online: Wix and Squarespace offer a mature visual editor for a similar budget, Shopify remains the benchmark for a real store, and Hostinger Website Builder makes the same AI bet at a gentler price. For a simple introduction page, Carrd is enough, for a very modest yearly cost.
How much does GoDaddy Website Builder cost?
GoDaddy lists four plans, published in dollars on its US page: a free one to try things out and three subscriptions that differ in monthly AI credits, number of published sites and selling features. Each subscription can be paid monthly or yearly, with the annual commitment coming to about half price.
| Plan | Per month | Per month, billed yearly | Included | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | — | 50 AI credits a month, preview-only sites | Testing the tool before paying |
| Starter | $19.99 | $9.99 | 150 credits a month, 1 published site, payment by link or QR code | Brochure site, portfolio, personal project |
| Professional | $49.99 | $24.99 | 300 credits a month, 10 sites, appointments, payments, store | Local business, service provider, small store |
| Ultimate | $199.99 | $99.99 | 750 credits a month, 50 sites, team collaboration, GitHub, priority support | Agencies and businesses managing several sites |

- With an annual commitment, the monthly price comes to about half the no-commitment rate; GoDaddy does not publish the price charged at renewal.
- The free domain is only free for the first year, with an annual plan; it then renews at the current rate, plus the annual ICANN fee.
- Monthly credits expire at the end of the billing cycle. Extra credits can be purchased, valid for one year, with no published price.
- Editing text and images by hand does not use any credits.
FAQ
Answers to questions about GoDaddy Website Builder
Are GoDaddy Website Builder and Airo the same tool?
Yes. GoDaddy now sells its website builder as Airo AI Builder, Airo being the brand that groups its artificial intelligence tools. It succeeds Websites + Marketing, itself the heir of GoCentral.
Can you build a free website with GoDaddy?
You can build and preview sites for free, with 50 AI credits a month and no credit card. To put the site online, the pricing requires the Starter plan, from $9.99 a month with an annual commitment.
What happens when you run out of credits?
You can no longer ask the AI for anything until the following month, unless you buy extra credits or move to a higher plan. Manual edits to text and images remain possible, since they do not use credits.
Can you leave GoDaddy and keep your website?
Yes. With Airo AI Builder, the site’s code can be downloaded at any time and hosted elsewhere. That was not the case with the former Websites + Marketing editor, whose sites stayed tied to the platform.
